I woke up around 10:30p, and hear 'voices.' No, no, I'm not crazy (yet, at least), so I looked outside to see if I could see any 'hooligans' (ha, does anyone actually USE that word anymore?? I think my Gramma does...) and there were none. I went downstairs to look out the windows that face the main street - no one. Huh. Went back upstairs, stood in the hall and the 'voices' were coming from OUR ROOM!! Oooo...getting a little freaked out now (especially after having watched the new movie "Paranormal Activity!!") - and then, DUMMY, realized that the monitor was on and I was listening to the neighbor's 2 year old daughter!! When Jason's monitor is off, and if our's happens to be on, we can hear them. WHEW!!! I KNEW I wasn't losing my mind by hearing 'voices!!'
So, I crawl into bed (thoroughly freaked out) and listen to the little girl next door. She must've been in her bed/crib (I heard her rustling around - yes, our monitor is good!) and she was singing to herself. I couldn't make out the song (it was most likely a made-up one), but it was so adorable! I thought back to when Jake used to do that (SPOILER ALERT - Impossible-not-to-do-sometimes-kid comparison!!). He'd wake up (or before he fell asleep) and just mumble away, in his own little world, having his own little conversations.
A thought quickly passed thru my head - "Man, do I wish Jason would do that...There's nothing I wouldn't give to hear him sing like that..." and then, just as quickly as it came, it passed. While yes, there's nothing I wouldn't give to hear him talk, tell me where it hurts, ask me why leaves fall, tell me what he wants for breakfast and lunch (dinner is different - you eat what I make, kid! Ha!)...but then again, I think that this is a challenge that God (or "Someone") has laid out before us, a challenge that will make us a tighter family, a challenge that years from now, when Jason is talking our ears off, we can tell him about and give him (and others) hope that he can do ANYTHING.
So, after another minute or two of listening to little Madison, I turned off the monitor and thanked God that my boys are healthy, strong, and happy...and looked forward to his speech therapy the next day!! :)
Some of the words Jason's beginning to use on a consistent basis are:
open - "up up"
please - peez
out - "out"
down- "down"
eat - "eat"
Jungle Book movie - "bear"
WALL-E movie - "yeah yah"
Curious George movie - "eee eeeee"
apple - "up oh"
come here - ''k'mere''
McDonalds - "don-doe"
burger - "buh buh"
HOWEVER, there was ONE WORD that he chose to REPEAT (he rarely repeats anything if you're not talking directly to him) - Kev came home, was talking about this idiot at work and said, "that guy is an a$$hole!" and Jason said "ash-o." We just laughed!!!!! Somehow I think, that's not a word I should tell his therapist about!! Ha!!!
We are starting OT in a couple of weeks. A couple of months ago, I called to get his OT re-eval scheduled earlier than the 6 month check up. He's not a very touchy-feelie kid, and it turns out he's got a 'slight' sensory issue. So, yeah, yet another 'challenge...'
